Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute
Excursion
Ever wanted to know what goes on in a world-leading genome research facility? Bring your students to the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and find out how genome research can have an impact on all of our lives. Topics covered in our visits can include DNA sequencing and the Human Genome Project, understanding cancer genomes, human variation and disease, using pathogen genomes to combat disease and the use of model organisms in research. A standard visit lasts between 2.5 to 3.5 hours and includes an introduction to genes, genomes and Sanger Institute research, a 30 minute talk from a Sanger Institute scientist, an activity and tour of the campus. Visits can be extended to include an ethical debate activity discussing the implications of genome research on society. We also offer “remote visits” via videoconference, please contact us for more information.
