FuturEnergia is an educational initiative that aims to provide a secondary and high school teachers with didactic resources to educate and raise awareness amongst students and their families as to the importance of energy savings, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. Since its launch, FuturEnergia has reached out to approximately 2.5 million students, who have participated in school visits, online chats or school competitions. For example, only in the school year 2009/2010 around 1200 students from 84 schools in 23 EU countries participated in the online chats. From 2006 to 2009 more than 4500 entries to the competitions were registered. FuturEnergia also succeeded in getting the patronage and involvement of key political figures such as Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, Commissioner Figel, MEP Prof. Gierek and MEP Kramer.
