Enrichment & Enhancement
Enhancement and Enrichment (E&E) of the curriculum describes all those activities which bring the outside world into the classroom and the classroom and the class to the outside world.
E&E activities help pupils to see the relevance of their studies to the world of life and work, and in the case of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), often involve industry in its widest sense.
E&E activities should make a positive contribution to the overall aim of getting more young people to consider STEM education post-16 or creating a more STEM-literate society, at all levels.
E&E activities:
- Bring breadth, stretch and depth to the curriculum and help children to make sense of it;
- Provide opportunities to deliver relevant additional content to the school curriculum;
- Fit into the school curriculum design and delivery methods:
- Contribute to overall enjoyment and excitement of STEM and
- Can help to engage and enthuse groups who are traditionally under-represented in STEM
Gap analysis
The consortium behind the STEM Directories was commissioned to produce a report on identifying existing gaps and overlaps in provision of national enhancement & enrichment (E&E) activities across KS3 and KS4 STEM subjects. The learning from this report is available to benefit the whole community and can be downloaded here.
